Any Grade 6, 7, or 8 student that participated in the District Badminton tournament are asked to meet in the gym today at 12:40 for a group photo.
The first round of the 2ball competition is complete. Check the list on the sports board to see if you have made it to the 2nd round. We will continue the 2nd round on Tuesday and Thursday of next week.
A reminder to Grade 8 students going on the Quebec Trip that 2nd payment is due today. You may bring your payment to Ms Reid in the office.

Just a reminder for the JV boys’ soccer team as you will get your team photo taken today at lunch. Please come to the gym as soon as you eat lunch so you can get your uniform on.
There are a few participants that did get to play 2ball yesterday. If you are not planning on playing, see Mrs. Throop before the end of the day.
Those students who were a part of the gr 6, 7, and 8 badminton teams will be getting a team photo taken Friday at lunch.

Junior Band rehearsal is from 3:00 – 4:30 today.
Congratulations to the boys basketball team for getting the silver medal at their annual tournament. It is not a gold medal, but it is an upgrade from previous years. Well done boys!
Just a reminder to the JV boys’ basketball team as they have a fun practice today at 4:45 against their parents. You will also get your team photo done at the beginning of practice.
The 2ball competition will be continuing today during the 2nd half of lunch. We are still in the first round, so those people who have not participated as of yet will do so today.
A reminder to Grade 8 students that 2nd payment for the Quebec Trip is due by Friday, February 24. Any student who has payment today, please bring it to Ms Reid in the office.

A job well done to the Lady Bears Basketball for coming 2nd place in their tournament. The girls played extremely well both days bringing them to the finals on Sunday. Girls you should be proud of yourselves for well representing Harry Miller Middle. Good luck at Provincials this weekend in Sussex.
The Varsity boys play today after school at 4:30 against QMS to determine the gold medal from their tournament last weekend. If there are 2 individuals that would like to score keep, see Mrs. Throop at break.

A reminder to students that have registered for the school Chess Tournament that the tournament will take place tomorrow in the library starting at 9:00 a.m. Any questions see Monsieur Melanson.
Congratulations to Sam Cookson on his fine performance at the Canwest Regional Spelling Bee at UNBSJ on Saturday. Sam placed 5th overall out of 26 after successfully completing 10 rounds.

Do you like Jelly Beans? Want a chance to win a large bottle fun of them? For $1 you can guess how many Jelly Beans are in a bottle and the correct guess takes home the Jelly Beans. The Varsity Girls Basketball team will be set up in the lobby today at break and lunch.
Could the JV boys basketball team meet Mrs. Throop in the gym at the start of break today.
The 2ball competition will start up again next week and there is NO open gym today.
Everyone that signed up for the scoreclock at the tournament this weekend are asked to be at an important meeting today in the gym during the 2nd half.
If anyone signed up to help at the tournament this weekend and would like to sign out their jersey to wear, please come to the gym during the 2nd half of lunch.

There is no open gym today. During the 2nd half of lunch in the gym there will be training for any students signed up to do the score clock this weekend at the tournament. If you need some help or a refresher on how to work the clock, come to the gym at 12:50.
If there any students that would like to sign up and help with the tournament this weekend, you can sign up today in the gym during the 2nd half of lunch.
Hats off to the 3 teams who played last night in Semi-Final Action. Although this is the end of the road for your season, you should all be proud of yourselves as you played a hard fought season. Good luck to the Varsity teams as they take part in provincials next weekend.

Junior Band is cancelled today.
Today will be the last day to register for the school chess tournament. The tournament will take place Tuesday, February 21 in the library. You can register during lunch time in Mr. Melanson’s classroom. Everyone is welcome, as long as you know how to play.
The Beyond the Hurt group will be selling Heart-O-Grams for $1 at recess and noon hour in support of AIDS research. Heart-O-Grams contain: 1 pack of dentyne ice gum, 1 red ribbon. Send a Heart-O-Gram to help find a cure for AIDS.
Good Luck to the JV boys basketball team as they travel to MCS today in Semi-final action. Teachers, would you kindly allow the JV boys only to be excused at 2:45.
The Varsity boys play today in our gym against Sussex middle. Game time is 3:50. The Varsity girls play today at Rothesay Park.

Junior Band is cancelled tomorrow.

Do you enjoy basketball? Do you think you have the shooting touch? Well this is for you….We will be holding a 2Ball shooting competition at lunch to see who are Harry Miller’s allstar shooters. Everyone is welcome to try. You participate in the competition in pairs. You earn points for baskets made and the pairing with the highest points will move on to the next round. If you are interested, you can sign up your pair on the sports board across from the gym. We will start the competition next Tuesday.

Ms. Palmer’s advisory class will be in the music room today.
This is a reminder to the ski club that tomorrow we will be heading to Poley for our first night of skiing. Students are reminded to have their equipment dropped off in the morning and we will be storing it in the room off the library.
All band rehearsals will begin next week.
There will be a JV boys’ basketball practice Wednesday morning at 7am in our gym.
Good luck to the varsity and JV girls’ basketball teams as they play tomorrow after school. Varsity travels to Hampton Middle and the JV team takes on Belleisle in our gym. If there is anyone interested in scorekeeping tomorrow for the JV game, please see Mrs. Throop.

Today is the second day of Bullying Awareness Week. If you haven’t yet seen the signs, we will be wearing pink on Thursday to stand up against bullying. Every morning, we will be listening to music that addresses bullying issues. We hope that you will start your day thinking about how you treat people and be kind to each other.

Today is the first day of Bullying Awareness Week. If you haven’t yet seen the signs, we will be wearing pink on Thursday to stand up against bullying. If you would like to join the Girls’ Kennebecasis Volleyball Association, registration will take place tonight in the Harry Miller cafeteria between 7:00 – 8:00. No experience necessary.
Congratulations to all the Students that Participated in the District 6 Badminton Tournament. There was an outstanding effort put forward by all students. In grade 6 Cassie Chapman moved on to the second round for Girls Singles. Cameron Crowell made it in to the Semi finals for Boys Singles. In Boys Doubles Austin and Logan placed 3rd overall. And in mixed doubles Diyasha and Jacob Snider made it into the second round.

In Grade 8 Badminton Action Taryn Holmes placed 3rd in Girls Singles, Abby Blaney and Katie Northrup placed 1st in Girls Doubles and Cormac Stewart and Abby Blaney placed 4th in Mixed Doubles. Great Job HMMS!

Thursday evening from 6:30 – 8:30 at Hampton High School is a “Celebrate Expo”. This is the official launch of the District 6 Celebrate Book in which many Harry Miller students have published artwork. This is a reminder for students who are attending and also an invitation for anyone who wants to experience the diverse talent that our district has to offer. Would all cross country runners go to the gym at 12:50 for a very important meeting.
A reminder to students that our fundraising assembly will be held next week. Only students who participated in the campaign will be attending. If you have sold 1 magazine, you are in. For all other students, it is class as usual. Subscriptions can be returned into Mr. Stevens up until Thursday of next week.
A special thanks to the students and staff for helping to raise $413.50 to support Kylie Clements and her family.
There will be an information meeting at 12:45 (the second half of lunch) today in Room 26 for any grade 7 students who are interested in being part of the anti-bullying “Beyond the Hurt” group. If you think that you might be interested in raising awareness about bullying, come to the meeting and get some more information from Mrs. Walsh.
There will be a rehearsal for the band playing at Hampton High next week in the music room at 12:50.
Congratulations to the girls’ varsity soccer team who defeated RCS Netherwood 11-0. Scoring for HMMS were Daniela Machado with 3; Abby Blaney with 3; Erin Gentleman and Riley Meahan each with 2 and Hannah Thorne had the single. Orianna Ross had the shut-out. The girls play today after school in Hampton. The team is asked to meet with Mr. Stevens in his room at the morning break.

There will be a very brief meeting of the girls’ varsity soccer team in Mr. Steven’s room at 12:40 to go over the Bliss Carman Soccer Tournament schedule. Please be prompt.
JV girls’ soccer team won 10-1 against Belleisle yesterday! Scoring a goal each was: Katie Northrup, Jessica Hayward, Robin MacPhail, Emily Peacock, Olivia Cummings, Makayla Martin, Julie Ogden, Jasmine Comeau, Lexi Keating and Savannah Ross. Congratulations girls! Next game is this Thursday against Sussex Middle.
Also in Varsity Soccer action Boys beat QMS 3-1.
Good luck the the JV boys that take on Sussex today in Sussex. Could the JV boys please be excused at 2:45 to get ready for their game.

Congratulations to the Varsity girls’ soccer team who captured the silver medal at the Harry Miller Honey Bowl over the weekend. On Saturday morning, the girls defeated Bayside Middle School 7-0. In game 2, Harry Miller and Samuel de Champlain tied 1-1. On Sunday, Harry Miller beat Quispamsis Middle 1-0 before losing to Rothesay Park 2-0 in the final. Scoring for Harry Miller were Hannah Thorne3; Sarah Teichman 2; Daniela Machado 2; Abby Blaney and Erin Gentleman each had 1. Well done girls. Our Varsity girls’ play today at 4:00 on the Arthur Miller field against QMS. Come ready to play girls!

Morning Announcements – September 22, 2011 – Day 4
Congratulations to all of the cross country runners that ran yesterday. In grade 6: Gillian Sheppard placed 17 and Riley Meahan placed 19 out of 34 girls. Grade 7 boys had Dawson Mitchell place 8, Alex Lunney place 4th and it was a race to the finish for Noah Johnson and Kristen McKinley who placed first for grade 7 boys and grade 7 girls. Also in grade 7 girls: Sarah Teichman placed 9th. Grade 8 girls had a strong finish with Hannah Thorne placing 4th and Sara Kean placing 1st. Alex Sheppard placed 8th for the grade 8 boys.
