Morning Announcements – November 14, 2011, Day 1

Today is the first day of Bullying Awareness Week. If you haven’t yet seen the signs, we will be wearing pink on Thursday to stand up against bullying. Every morning, we will be listening to music that addresses bullying issues. We hope that you will start your day thinking about how you treat people and be kind to each other.

Could the students in uniform please go to the library to see Mrs. Wright at break.

At the end of the recess would Sydney Darling, Jared Johnson and Jillian Allan and the class reps placing the poppies also go to the library.

If you would like to join the Girls’ Kennebecasis Volleyball Association, registration will take place tonight in the Harry Miller cafeteria between 7:00 – 8:00. No experience necessary.

Congratulations to all the Students that Participated in the District 6 Badminton Tournament. There was an outstanding effort put forward by all students. In grade 6 Cassie Chapman moved on to the second round for Girls Singles. Cameron Crowell made it in to the Semi finals for Boys Singles. In Boys Doubles Austin and Logan placed 3rd overall. And in mixed doubles Diyasha and Jacob Snider made it into the second round.

In Grade 8 Badminton Action Taryn Holmes placed 3rd in Girls Singles, Abby Blaney and Katie Northrup placed 1st in Girls Doubles and Cormac Stewart and Abby Blaney placed 4th in Mixed Doubles. Great Job HMMS!

Could all Soccer players you do not have their jerseys in please get them in ASAP.

Varsity Boys Basketball Tryouts will be today after school from 3:15-4:45 and next Tuesday from 3:15-4:45.

Varsity Girls Basketball Tryouts will be Monday and Wednesday next week from 4:45-6.

Any girls interested in the volleyball club registration will be tonight in the HMMS Cafeteria from 7-8.

All senior band students are asked to come to the music room at break.

Senior band and Glee are cancelled for today.

Attention all students and staff. The Senior Band members will be having a bake sale today in front of the office during break! Make sure to pick up some yummy treats!

Three reminders for Remembrance Day.

1. Essays, posters or poetry to be turned into Mrs. MacDonald.

2. Anyone who has a photo or picture of a relative who served in the war, can bring those to Mrs. MacDonald for the “Wall of Honour”

3. Anyone who is involved in cadets, scouts or guides is welcome to wear their uniform and participate in the Remembrance Day Assembly next Thursday. Please see Mrs. MacDonald.

Congratulations to the Boys Varsity Soccer team for winning the District 6 Championship yesterday 2-1 over QMS. The boys had a come from beyond victory in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Could all soccer players return their jerseys and anyone still owing fees get them in as soon as possible.

There will be a grade 8 Badminton practice at 12:50 today.

Last night our girls’ varsity soccer team lost a heart breaker to Quispamsis 2-0 in semi-final playoffs. Our girls overall record was 9 wins; 3 loses and 3 ties. You had a great season girls!

A Hollywood Blockbuster Evening will be performing at RHS tonight at 7:30 pm until about 9:30. It will include dance, music, art, film, comedy, drama and digital art by students at our school.

Varsity boys’ soccer team beat RPS in the semi-finals by a score of 5-0. They will play QMS on Thursday at 4:00 on the lower Arthur Miller field for the District 6 championship.

JV boys’ soccer beat the JV girls yesterday in a celebration of their great season.

There will be grade 6 badminton tomorrow at 12:50 and grade 8 badminton Friday at 12:50.

Students who have not picked up their prizes for the magazines Readers Digest (back pack buddy) or Chatelaine, Todays Parent, Flare (stick ease) please see Mr. Stevens today at break or at noon.

JV Girls Soccer team takes on the JV Boys Soccer team on Tuesday after school at 4:00 pm on the Upper Arthur Miller Field.

In Varsity Soccer Semi Final Action the Varsity Boys will take on RPS on Tuesday at 4:00 on Lower Arthur Miller and the Varsity Girls will take on QMS on Wednesday at 4:00 on Lower Arthur Miller.

There will be grade 8 Badminton after school from 3:00-4:30.

Grade 6 with have practice this week on Tuesday and Thursday at 12:50.

A reminder to students to get in your retake orders as the package will be mailed out on Wednesday.

A huge farewell to Jacob Marier from all your friends at Harry Miller. We will miss you.

The JV girls’ soccer team had an undefeated season this year, winning their championship game against Rothesay Park with a score of 3:1. Scoring were:

Makayla Martin w/ 1 goal and Katie Northrup w/ 2 goals. Outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship from all the girls on the team. Your hard work certainly paid off. Way to go!

The JV girls’ team will be taking on the JV boys’ team next week.

A big Congratulations goes out to the JV Girls team would are the District 6 Champions beating RPS 3-0.

Great job the Varsity Boy soccer players who beat RNS. They will be playing in the Semi finals Tuesday after school.

Just a reminder that the babysitting course begins today from 3:00 – 5:00 in the cafeteria after school. If there is anyone that hasn’t handed in their registration, there are spots left, so get them in as soon as possible to Mrs. Walsh.

If there are any Grade 8 students interested in helping with the dances, either selling tickets or making posters, please see Mrs. Shannon at 12:50 today in her classroom. Room 2.

Students who are participating in this year’s “egg drop” must meet in Miss Mailloux’s room 27 today at 12:50. We will be starting the drop on Wednesday.

Hannah Thorne scored a “highlight goal” with a header on a hard cross from Abby Blaney, Keilly Melanson was outstanding in goal for Harry Miller making several difficult saves. Our Lady Blue Bears are tied for first with 6 wins, 0 losses, 2 ties. Well done girls!

There will be a short Hampton Band meeting at 12:50 today.

A reminder to students that if you have a magazine subscription, it must be turned in to Mr. Stevens by lunch time today in order to go to the assembly tomorrow afternoon.

Thursday evening from 6:30 – 8:30 at Hampton High School is a “Celebrate Expo”. This is the official launch of the District 6 Celebrate Book in which many Harry Miller students have published artwork. This is a reminder for students who are attending and also an invitation for anyone who wants to experience the diverse talent that our district has to offer. Come on out for an evening of celebration!

Just a reminder to grade 7 students applying for “Beyond the Hurt”, please pass in your application to Mrs. Walsh a.s.a.p.

Students wishing to participate in the egg drop, please go to Miss Mailloux’s classroom (Room 27) at 12:25. Today is the last day to sign up! The meeting will only take 5 minutes.

Good Luck to the JV Boys Soccer team as they play RPS at RHS today after school at 4:00.

All Cross Country runners need to let Ms. Butler know today if they will be attending Provincials or Atlantics. Please come to the gym at 12:25.

Any student who is interested in taking the Red Cross Babysitting course starting on Tuesday, October 25th from 3:00-5:00, should go upstairs to Room 26 at lunch at 12:45 today. The first 30 students registered will be accepted into the course.

Any students who are applying to the “Beyond the Hurt” program need to have their applications in by the end of today.

Good luck to the girls’ varsity soccer team who travel to Sussex to take on the Stingers. Come ready to play! Teachers, please allow the girls to leave class at 2:45 today. The girls are asked to meet in the gym at 12:25 to confirm rides to Sussex.

A reminder to students that our fundraising assembly will be held next week. Only students who participated in the campaign will be attending. If you have sold 1 magazine, you are in. For all other students, it is class as usual. Subscriptions can be returned into Mr. Stevens up until Thursday of next week.

A special thanks to the students and staff for helping to raise $413.50 to support Kylie Clements and her family.

There will be an information meeting at 12:45 (the second half of lunch) today in Room 26 for any grade 7 students who are interested in being part of the anti-bullying “Beyond the Hurt” group. If you think that you might be interested in raising awareness about bullying, come to the meeting and get some more information from Mrs. Walsh.

There will be a rehearsal for the band playing at Hampton High next week in the music room at 12:50.

Congratulations to the girls’ varsity soccer team who defeated RCS Netherwood 11-0. Scoring for HMMS were Daniela Machado with 3; Abby Blaney with 3; Erin Gentleman and Riley Meahan each with 2 and Hannah Thorne had the single. Orianna Ross had the shut-out. The girls play today after school in Hampton. The team is asked to meet with Mr. Stevens in his room at the morning break.

JV girls’ soccer team won 10-1 against Belleisle yesterday! Scoring a goal each was: Katie Northrup, Jessica Hayward, Robin MacPhail, Emily Peacock, Olivia Cummings, Makayla Martin, Julie Ogden, Jasmine Comeau, Lexi Keating and Savannah Ross. Congratulations girls! Next game is this Thursday against Sussex Middle.

Congratulations to all of the cross country runners that ran yesterday. In grade 6: Gillian Sheppard placed 17 and Riley Meahan placed 19 out of 34 girls. Grade 7 boys had Dawson Mitchell place 8, Alex Lunney place 4th and it was a race to the finish for Noah Johnson and Kristen McKinley who placed first for grade 7 boys and grade 7 girls. Congratulations to our JV and Varsity girls volleyball teams who hosted a successful tournament this weekend. JV girls advanced to the quarter finals, where they lost in a great match to Sussex. Varsity girls went five games against RPS in the semi-finals only to get defeated in the fifth game. Both teams played hard – good job girls!

Tryouts for 100 meter run will be held Tuesday and Wednesday after school from 3:00-4:00 p.m. on our field.

Good job to all students who competed at the English Oratorical Competition last night. Congratulations to Jenecca Crossman who competed at the grade 8 level; Jasmine Comeau who placed 3rd at the grade 7 level; and to Caroline Stephen who placed 1st at the grade 6 level as well as placing 1st at the Middle School Level. Caroline will be representing HMMS at the Provincial Level Oratorical Competition on May 20th.

Yearbook team meeting today at 12:10 right after the bell – all yearbook staff must attend.

Any students interested in attending an after school Art Club should see Mr. Lowe today at noon.

Our Varsity boys volleyball team plays host to Hampton Middle School today at 4:00 p.m. Varsity girls play at QMS at 4:00 p.m. today. Yesterday our JV boys won two matches during round-robin play at QMS.

Our JV girls volleyball team won two of three matches yesterday in some very exciting games – congratulations girls!

A reminder that today’s girls volleyball practices are postponed until Friday, April 29th – JV girls at 4:00-5:30 and varsity girls from 5:30-7:00 p.m.

JV boys play at QMS today at 4:00 p.m. – good luck boys!

Today is the last day for Grade 8 students to submit their baby picture for the yearbook.

Reminder that money for band trip is due by tomorrow.

Would Jazz Band and the JV Girls Basketball team meet at 12:10 in the music room for yearbook photos.

In Monday’s volleyball action – our JV girls split two games each with Rothesay Park School who took the 5th game decider. JV girls practice today from 5:30 – 7:00 and Varsity girls from 7:00-8:30 p.m.

Track and field tryouts will begin next week on Tuesday. Please sign up by the locker rooms if you are interested.

The playoffs have started! Have some fun and pick a team for the playoff pool. List 15 players and their team and give to me by Friday, Monday at the latest. Plus $10. I will put our teams on a playoff website so you can see how you and everyone else is doing. As a suggestion for the prize money (a trip to Vegas will be in store after your big win!) is First place = 1/2
Second and Third 1/4 each (I’m open to suggestions)

Congratulations to our Varsity boys volleyball team who defeated Sussex and Hampton, and tied Quispamsis in yesterday’s volleyball tournament.

Our JV boys play their first tournament of the season at MCS today. Would teachers please dismiss the JV players at 2:45. Good luck boys!

Yesterday, our Varsity girls volleyball team won all of their games against HMS. Way to go girls!

Congratulations to our girls Cheerleading teams who ran an exciting Cheerfest this weekend and won the event too.

Another congratulations to our girls Volleyball teams who competed at Nashwaaksis this weekend. Varsity girls went undefeated on day one then lost in the quarter finals. JV girls did very well too, remaining in until the quarter finals.

JV boys volleyball players practice from 3:00-4:30 today. Varsity boys volleyball players practice from 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Our JV girls volleyball team play their first game of the season at MCS today. Teachers please excuse the girls at 2:45 p.m.

Reminder there is a Performance Band rehearsal from 3:00-4:30 p.m. today.

Also there is a Jazz Band rehearsal at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow morning.

Mr. Steven’s class would like to thank the staff and students of HMMS for making our bake sale a success. We made $138 from the bake sale and were able to raise a total of $242.45 for Japan’s relief fund. Thanks for your support.

The Varsity boys volleyball team has a practice today from 4:15-6:00 p.m; and a meeting in the gym at 12:30 today.

Girls volleyball call backs take place at noon today. If your name is on the call back list, please come to the gym ready to play at 12:20.
